Although people become more naturally experienced in understanding their babies the more time they spend with them, the developers insist that their app can still help novice parents.
This app is suitable for infants of all nationalities, races, and genders.
How The Infant Cries Translator App Works ?
Once the baby starts crying, you just push the recording button for 10 seconds, and the sounds will be uploaded to the Cloud Drive.
After the translate process, the analysis result of the sound is transferred to your mobile phone.
Its machine learning algorithm means that mothers and fathers can set up a personal setting for their infant, based on the parents’ feedback.
Over the past two years, the National Taiwan University Hospital Yunlin has been collecting crying sounds from different newborn babies.
They have compiled 200,000 different sounds from 100 newborns and uploaded them to create a massive an online database.
“The Infant Cries Translator can differentiate four different statuses of sounds of baby crying, including hunger, the diaper getting wet, sleepy and pain, ” Chang Chuan-yu, one of the head researchers, said.
So far, according to the feedback from users, the accuracy of the app we’ve tested can reach 92 percent for babies under two weeks old.
As for the babies under one or two months, the accuracy of the app can also reach up to 84 percent or 85 percent. Even for the four month old baby, the accuracy can reach 77 percent.
